Working with doctors can be a yucky business — and that’s if your lucky. Many people don’t have access to healthcare and, among those that do, there’s often little apparent reason to see a doctor, until it’s too late. Susan Conover calls it an “open loop” problem. We’d expect nothing less from a systems design engineer. She co-founded LuminDx, a Boston-based startup, to close that loop with a smartphone app that alerts its users when they have potentially lethal skin diseases. That’s still a major yuck, but it at least gives them a chance to see a doctor before it’s too late.
